I think the big companies over internet don’t understand the meaning of beta. I understood this from Google and Yahoo, from the respective products Gmail and YPN. Gmail was launched on April 1, 2004 as Google mail in Germany, Australia and United Kingdom as a private beta, where a user can join only by a invitation. And, in February 7, 2007 it opened to all as a public beta. But still after many days, weeks and months it continues to be a beta in their logo. Check it out below,

The another thing is YPN, Yahoo publishers network is the CPC started program started against the growth of the Adsense, officially beta launched in US and Canada some years before and still continues to be the beta version.
